A Sydney father of two who loved fast cars has died after crashing his luxury sports car into a telegraph pole.
Police say George Kanalis, 43, of Glenhaven was driving a black Lamborghini in an industrial area in Wetherill Park on Thursday night when he appears to have lost control of the car, crossed the road hitting a number of cars before careering into the telegraph pole.
“He loved his toys,’’ said neighbour John Denton.
“George was a a lovely bloke who had a passion for life.
Mr Kanalis owned a property next door at Peats Ridge on the central coast which he bought about six years ago.
“I think he was planning to build a house and maybe move the family up here but never got around to it”.
“He had a earth moving business and came up here and would sometimes just drive his tractor around for hours. or he would have a bunch of his mates and have bon fires.
“Occasionally he was here with his kids.”
CCTV footage shows the luxury sports car driving at high speed in Hassall street before the accident.
Police say there were a number of calls to 000 around 6pm on Friday night to say the driver was still trapped in the vehicle. Despite attempts to revive him he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A report will be prepared for the coroner but at this stage it looks like driver error and that speed was a factor,’’ said a police spokesman.’
